NAMING OF THE
 DOMINICAN PROJECT

While spending several years teaching in affluent Catholic parishes, thoughts intruded into Paul Morrison’s mind, of ways in which these truly blessed teens could help their counterparts in lesser developed regions of the world. He shared these thoughts with me, his Mom, and we spent hours at the computer laying out a plan for the creation of his Project.

Unable to sleep some nights, “playing around with words” as a diversion from pain, I asked myself what was this project all about anyway? Recognizing that this was a two-pronged effort, i.e. the opportunity to open the minds of our young people to the realities of life in places they had probably never even heard about, consequently developing their full potential, while at the same time helping people in less fortunate communities attain a better lifestyle by providing them with the tools to do this, that are so easily available to us and we take so much for granted.

The word “Dreams” is probably an overworked word. “Dreams” we all have them–some are attainable, some are not. Dreams shared are better realized. The “playing around with words” did not come from hopes unrealized, but from the realities of what the project was all about–providing guidance and help in whatever way possible to make the burdens of life easier for people less fortunate, i.e. Dominican Republic Educational And Medical Support– read the words!! With emphasis on SUPPORT. Not to impose our North American Culture on another country, but to encourage them to develop their own culture within themselves. So as you can see from the above, the “Project” inspired the name–the word (DREAMS) did not inspire the Project. (I’m sure God was the one who really arranged it.)
