Time and Talent

This tribute appeared in the October 21, 2007 Weekly Bulletin of St. Julie Parish. Sam was a friend. In addition to the gifts of self mentioned in the article, he was a regular at Bible Study and every special prayer liturgy at the parish. I had the privilege of being a member of the Senior Serves while I was able and of serving with Sam at many funerals. To know Sam was to be enriched.

Since our parish does not have a school on the premises, retired men (women are also welcome) are the alter servers at funerals. I was privileged to be a member of this group prior to Anne's death and served with Sam.

This weekend each of the five ministry boards have prepared displays in the Parish Hall highlighting their ministries. Pictured below are our Funeral Servers who came together recently to serve as an Honor Guard at the funeral of one of their own, Sam Alletto.

As we think about ways to share our time and talent, Sam’s life and devotion to this parish can be an example for all of us.

In addition to being a Funeral Server, Sam was a Eucharistic Minister and an usher at the 9:00 Mass. When the lists were posted asking for ushers to volunteer to serve at our Confirmations and First Communions, Sam’s name was always near the top of the list. Whether it was Reconciliation, Holy Day, or Holy Week Services, we could always count on Sam.

In addition to his liturgical service, Sam helped in so many other ways. He volunteered as a Money Counter on Monday mornings, and he could always be counted on to help with Donut Sunday. There was even a flower arrangement resembling a chocolate donut at his funeral. Taste of Italy, Taste of Poland, any parish social event, Sam helped. He didn’t do these things for thanks, he didn’t do them for attention, giving of himself is just what he did. Sam will be greatly missed.

A Witness to Life

Ordinary People -
Extraordinary Actions

Many people, ordinary in every way, do extraordinary things. Very often, they themselves do not feel that their actions are anything but what is expected of them by God.

They are an example to all of us, a witness to a way of life that is reachable to the rest of us ordinary people.

These pages are their stories.
