In America

The first Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower arrived at Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620, the place of the first New England settlement. In 1630 the town of Boston was founded.

Generation 1

James Cudworth (1604-1682) & Mary Sarah Goodman (1608-1699)

James Cudworth was born in Albertson, Yorkshire, England in 1604. He married, place and date unknown, Sarah Goodman. She is believed to have been born in England in 1608.  They were in America before 1635. We are aware of 3 children born between 1635 and 1644; James, Mary, and Israel. The first two were born at Scituate and the last at Barnsatble, Ma.

On some family trees James has the title "General" but no further information has been found to substantiate that title.

After living at Barnstable for a while, the family returned to Scituate where James died on July 7, 1682 and Mary Sarah in 1699 at the age of 91.

Generation 2

Mary Cudworth (1637-1699) & Robert Whitcomb (1629-1704)

Mary Cudworth, born July 23, 1637, married Robert Whitcomb who had been born in Taunton, Somerset, England on December 20, 1629. When he arrived in America is not known. We are only aware of one child, James, who was born at Scituate in 1668.

Mary died in 1699 and Robert on Christmas day in 1704, both at Scituate.

Generation 3

James Whitcomb (1668-1728) & Mary Parker (1667-1729)

James Whitcomb was born at Scituate, Ma in 1668. He married Mary Parker who had been born in the same community on September 8, 1667.  There is conflicting information regarding her parents and ancestry.

During the years 1697 through 1703 they were the parents of; Nathaniel, James, Joanna, Mary, and Robert. We know of no other children and have no information about the family.

James died reportedly at Rochester, Ma on June 26, 1728 and Mary at Scituate, Ma on November 30, 1729.

Generation 4

James Whitcomb (1697-1763) & Sarah Winslow (1707-1771)

James Whitcomb, born at Rochester, Ma on August 30, 1763 married the widow Sarah Winslow.  Sarah was born at Rochester in 1707, the daughter of Edward Winslow (1681-1770 and Sarah Clark (1682-1767).  The information about Sara's parents ranges from non existent to conflicting so we shall not make assumptions here. Sarah Winslow had  married Thomas Lincoln in 1725 at Rochester, Ma. They apparently had 3 children between 1726 and 1729; Seth, Mehitable, and Rachel. Her husband died on June 15, 1730 at the age of 30.

James Whitcomb and Sarah Winslow were the parents of 8 children born between 1733 and 1759. They were; Thomas, Sarah, Mercy, Scottoway, Robert, Nathaniel, Edward, and Mary. James died on August 30, 1763 leaving Sarah a widow for the second time.  She died at Worchester, Ma on February 28, 1771.

Generation 5

Mary Whitcomb (1759-1771) & John Bullen (1747-1824)

Mary Whitcom, born October 23, 1759 at Rochester, Ma, married John Bullen. To follow this line of the family see the Bullen Family.

Postscript:
The information on this branch of the family was taken mostly from a number of family trees found at Ancestry.com. Although care has been taken to include reasonable information it is subject to further verification.

This line of our family, brings us to the Bullen family line and from there to join the Doolittle Family, then Thayer and finally Copeland Families.
