The World of Grandpa Don
I did it again, this time with this page. I tried to add a major change on Wednesday and when I saved the page I blew most of it away. at least four days work went down the tube. I am doing something wrong just prior to saving or I have an incidious bug in my system. So, I start again on a review of the week, as best I can remember. I am sure many details will be missed but ... I am too blessed to be stressed about it.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY This goes to Chad Kisel, my grandnephew, grandson of my sister Rita Barilla. The early part of Labor Day weekend, Anne Marie and Dom went to Kalamazoo to see a couple of Anthony's games. Tom had taken one of the Albano cars to the lake, then met him in K town on Friday and brought him back to the lake for some R&R, turning the car over to Anthony in the process. The Kankakee baseball club took pity on the Sliders, making them "Home" team for one of the games. Even the Kalamazoo fans cheered and rooted for them during the game. However, even Anthony's two run homer in the bottom of the ninth was not enough and the Sliders lost. Anthony had told his coach that he would be willing to sit the bench for a couple games to give a new outfielder a chance to play. The surprised coach said "thanks" made some shifts in the outfield and put the new guy in in place of the center fielder leaving Anthony play. Anthony has been hitting like crazy and gunning down anyone who challenges his throw from right field to the home plate. After the series in Michigan they finished the season in Washington, PA this week. He drove from there to Indianapolis to visit Ashley at dental school. He has an appointment for her to clean his teeth on Friday. As for next year, see OAKLAND COUNTY CRUISERS On Monday Mikey and I went to the Albano's along with Dominick, Sarah and Hunter. I enjoyed a big juicy hamburger with all the fixing's And a good day was had by all. We spoke of Sarah's ancestors. That is a part of my family tree records that needs more research. And ... please join us in praying for Sarah's sister Kelley and her family. She has a very serious health problem and her Father-in-law is in desperate condition.
A good part of Tuesday was invested in researching Sarah's grandparents. I found census information and Social Security death records which may be a match fro her grandfather and which also reveal the names and approximate birthdates of her great grandparents. Having sent it to her, she checked with her dad and verified the find. He was excited in finding the information about his grandparents. We also have a lead on his mother's side. The Nagy roots are in Hungry and Sarah's great grandparents immigrated from there. Her mother's roots are in England and I intend to pursue that line next. When Dominick and Sarah's daughter is born we will have her pedigree recorded for her. Tuesday was the hottest day of the year so my sojourns to the outside were brief but completive of the months to come when I'll be confined to the house. The Astor that survived last year's planting is beginning to bloom with its delicate purple petals and yellow centers.
In one respect, I don't want to talk about Wednesday. That is when I destroyed this page. Some time ago, that would have been the occasion of major stress and much ranting and raving. However ... I am ... Too blest to be stressed. Too anointed to be disappointed. Too overjoyed to be annoyed The important thing about Wednesday was the address given by Sarah Palin at the convention. If there was any doubt in my vote in November, and there wasn't, it is doubly confirmed now. She, I believe, is fully qualified to be a heartbeat from the presidency. She, in my opinion, is more qualified than Do Nothing Obama. Obama has a great personality and is a good orator. That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee. I will cast my lot with those who show integrity, selflessness and effective leadership. I invite you to view ... Sarah Palin vs. Barack Obama . Thursday we were visited by the remnants of Hurricane Gustov. It Rained all day with periods of torrential downpours. We needed that. Fortunately the winds were dissipated long before the storm reached here. Mikey went for a bath and a haircut and I went to Bible study. The subject is the Psalms and opens up the connection between Jewish prayer and Christian prayer since the psalms are an integral part of both cultures. They are used both in the mass and outside the mass, being the basis for the prayers of the "Office" used by clergy and to a lesser extent by lay members. There is a movement to encourage more use of the psalms by lay members of the church. As with all prayer, they cement our relationship with God and each other. Some time was devoted to reconstructing this page and some to delving into the Nagy branch of our family ancestry. I discovered that her great grandfather, Ernie Nagy, was a passenger on the steamship Amerika, which sailed from Hamburg, Germany and arrived at New York on October 31, 1909. Ernie was a Hungarian: (magyarok) or Magyar. My research on other family members continues.
Returning to US politics, my decision to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket in the upcoming elections was again fortified by what I thought was a remarkable speech. He offered polite recognition to our current president and then built up to a rousing endorsement for "Change" in the way things are done. Yes, I agree that there needs to be changes made but Obama would throw the baby out with the bath water. Again, I see credibility and integrity with McCain and Palin. Frankly, I don't see that with Obama and Biden ... especially in the case of Obama. It was reported earlier that Obama said that the Georgia - Russian conflict should be left to the UN Security Council. Apparently, Obama doesn't even know that Russia has veto power in the Security Council.. But Obama fit right in with the Do-Nothing Illinois Senate, voting "Present" over 100 times. What was he thinking? Can't he make a decision? Was it ignorance, fear of making a mistake, or what? On the positive side, in both McCain and Palin I see honesty, selflessness, and a willingness, no eagerness, to place the needs of this nation above their own needs. I believe they have both demonstrated that fact beyond any doubt.
Having stayed up late to watch McCain's address and then the news, I slept late Friday. A light jacket was needed for my time of reflection. The change that I was trying to make for this page will wait until I figure out what I was doing wrong and I will be sure to backup my backups before doing anything major again. (Seems like I have said that before.) I am reluctant to let summer go but powerless to stop it. So I will live with what come along. Actually, I don't have a choice there do I? But I do have a choice in how I feel about it and therefore how I feel. My friend Bob always says, "Have a good day". OK, Bob, that is the plan I chose to follow. No, follow is not correct! That is the plan I chose to pursue and with dedication. As the Captain of the Enterprise (Star Trek, Next Generation) says, "Make it so."
