A Prayer for Victims and a Better World
A friend sent a heart rending account of the cruel actions of a faction in Africa acting in the guise of religion. She asked for my prayers. I have been praying for such victims since 9/11/01 and my prayer has evolved to be a universal plea for all victims of human evil. Each morning I include the following in my prayers for deceased family and friends ...
" ... And Lord, I pray for those who have died and are dying in violence and terror a a result of the evil actions of men. I pray also for those people who have died and are dying from neglect as a result of man's indifference. I ask, dear God, that these people not be judged on their human faults, but in your infinite mercy, they be given a place in your kingdom."
And then I begin my prayers for the living with ...
"Lord, I pray for the political and military leaders of the world and our communities. May they guide their actions by a concern for all your creation and may they be true leaders by making their decisions devoid of any selfish motives of either themselves or the people they represent. ... I pray, dear Lord, for the religious leaders of the world, that they be guided by your Holy Spirit, in fostering love, compassion and sharing among all your people recognizing the brotherhood of mankind. ... "
We can not view the world in terms of "them and us" and have peace.
